DESPITE the awful weather more than 150 people visited the City of Almshouses in Wells as part of Heritage Open Days on September 9.

Visitors had the opportunity to tour the gardens of the Llewellyn's Almshouses and browse an exhibition on their history. Across the road visitors could admire the wonderful secluded garden of the Bubwith Almshouse site.

Inside the Bubwith chapel the local Wells ukulele band, Simply Uke, put on a fantastic performance. Homemade cakes and hot drinks, much needed after the rain, were available in the Guildroom where local councillors met before the Town Hall was built.

Thanks have been extended to all those who helped on the day, including Sarah Villiers who was brilliant at getting people in off the street, and all the wonderful residents who made delicious cakes and savouries and helped out throughout the day.
