PRO-EU supporters were campaigning in Wells High Street on two Saturdays in December.

Members of the Mendip Branch of the European Movement shared their views with passers-by on the impact of Brexit and collected signatures on a petition calling for a vote in Parliament on the final Brexit deal.

Branch co-ordinator Kathryn Fox, who set up the branch in the summer, said: “I believe we can persuade people to our point of view by explaining how we have been enriched, culturally and monetarily, by being in the EU. We are now a vibrant and growing group. More than 50 people have signed up for emails from us and we have around 25 attending each meeting.”

On January 12, former MEP Sir Graham Watson will be delivering a talk in Wells and Mendip Museum entitled ‘What has the EU ever done for the South West?’

The event will be free but, as numbers are limited, tickets will be given on a first come first served basis.
