First winners picked in loyalty prize draw

THE first two winners of Wells loyalty shopping scheme vouchers have been drawn.

Sarah Meek and Elizabeth Walker have each won £50 worth of vouchers to spend in shops run by league members, after handing in cards with £100 worth of stamps on them.

They both have connections to Wells Cathedral School – Elizabeth is a flute teacher there, and Sarah was a teaching assistant at the school.

“I’m thrilled to have won these vouchers – it will make my return to work all that more exciting in 2021,” said Elizabeth, who stays one night a week at the White Hart hotel in term time when she is in Wells to teach the flute.

“January is a favourite time because my flute pupils perform in the wonderful series of Prom concerts in the Cathedral. I cross all my fingers that this event can take place in 2021.”

Sarah was handed her vouchers in Amba, where she is a regular customer. She said: “I’m really pleased to have won.

“We’re spoilt in Wells with all the lovely independent shops and everyone should use them.”

Amba owner Karen Bell said: “I’m delighted that one of our customers has won. It’s a valuable scheme, encouraging people to shop local.”

The latest businesses to join the scheme are Mansfield Opticians and The Crown Hotel, bringing to 19 the number of places where shoppers can collect cards and have them stamped when they spend.

The scheme is being sponsored by Wells chartered accountants Chalmers HB and Wells City Council. David Winter of Chalmers HB said: “As a sponsor of the Wells loyalty scheme, we are delighted to see that it is being so well supported by the businesses in Wells and the local people who shop in the city and we would like to wish one and all a happy and Covid-free, prosperous 2021.

“Local, independent businesses are so important to the local economy and make Wells the unique and characterful city that it is.”
