WORK has begun on a new development of 30 one and two bedroom retirement apartments on land at the Tesco store site in West Street, Wells.

The privately-owned Churchill Retirement Living apartments will provide high quality, self-contained accommodation in landscaped grounds on a site that has been empty for several years. Apartments will have spacious rooms throughout, and owners will also have peace of mind from a fitted camera entry system and a 24-hour emergency call system.

The development will have a Guest Suite for when family or friends stay, and there will be regular social events in the comfortable Owners’ Lounge.

James Barnes, Churchill Retirement Living’s Regional Managing Director, South West, said: “We’re delighted to be making a start on our new development in Wells. It will follow the same highly successful pattern of all Churchill Lodges, providing high quality, self-contained homes in a convenient location.

"Being in a manageable home with no maintenance can offer a new lease of life for people – ensuring they are close to amenities and surrounded by a new community, enjoying all the lifestyle benefits a Churchill Retirement Living apartment has to offer.

“Demolition of the site on West Street has now been completed and we will be aiming to get the development ready for its first new owners to move in by summer 2018. We would like to thank residents for their understanding during the construction phase, and will continue to try to minimise any disruption.”
