Model railway exhibition back with something special

THE Railwells model railway exhibition is returning to Wells for the first time in three years.

The event, which has not taken place for the past two years due to Covid, will be held in Wells Town Hall on August 13 and 14.

This year’s event has turned out to be very special. Out of the 14 layouts attending there will be two layouts of stations on the Isle of White: the little known Ventnor West in 0g showing as it would have been just before D-Day, full of army vehicles, and Ventnor Town in P4 built in an old quarry.

The carriages running on this layout are exact replicas of those which would have run on this island line on June 3, 1960. This was the date that layout builders Andy and Mathew together with their Mum and Dad visited Ventnor on the island. They know this because their Dad kept a diary of what happened every day, and they were able to look it up.

Also attending will be Iain Rice, well known railway modeller and model book writer, assisting Mick Simpson showing how to build an incline in 2mm scale called Pit Hill.

Finally, the East Dorset Gang of Four are bringing their layout of Flintcombe in P4, a fictitious branch of the Somerset & Dorset set in Dorset. The gang will include Dickie Paget who is 101 years young.

Railwells 2022, including Scalefour Southwest and special sections for The EM Gauge Society and The 2mm Association, will be open from 10.30am-5.30pm on August 13, and 10am-4.30pm on August 14.

Admission is adults £8, accompanied child (14 and under) free, wheelchair user and child  up to 17 years old £4.
