Pledge of £42,000 gets project funding off to fantastic start
Wells Skatepark Community Group provides an update on the skatepark redevelopment plans
WELLS Skatepark is excited to announce the support of Mendip District Council who have committed to supporting the redevelopment of Wells Skatepark with £42,000 from the Section 106 Fund. This is a fantastic start to finding the estimated £300,000 that the redevelopment will need.
Wells City Council continues to be very supportive of the project and Councillor Louis Agabani has stepped forward to focus on the project and help see it to fruition.
Wells City Council have an agreement for a 20-year lease from Somerset County Council on the land. However, bearing in mind the facility will have at least double that lifespan, we are asking for them to review this to give guaranteed longevity.
We are also pleased to report that, from tough competition, Maverick Skateparks have been chosen to help us take the project forward. Maverick are keen to meet the riders, get going and design a park bespoke to our wheeled sports community. For anyone who doesn’t already know Maverick, have a look at some of their previous work here: www.maverickskateparks.co.uk
In order to make this project work for the users we would like to engage as many as possible. If you are a rider or skater and haven’t already been in touch please do sign up to our newsletter, contact us on email@example.com or follow us on social media @wells_Skatepark
And finally, our JustGiving page has just launched: www.justgiving.com/campaign/wellsskatepark
Please give what you can, every donation really helps and if you would like to be involved in further community fundraising events, let us know.
