Possible location for multi-storey car park
FURTHER to Martin Cooke’s suggestion last month for a third level in the Whiting Way car park, I am including my suggestion to the Mendip District Council Local Plan Part 2: Wells 116M (mixed development).
There is a groundswell in local publications for more parking, especially long-term parking, to be made available in Wells.
Such parking needs to be within a practical or comfortable walking distance of the commercial, tourist and other facilities in the central area of the city.
Long-term parking might improve the opportunities for tourists not only to visit the many sites but also to include a meal within their visit, which is precluded by the three-hour limit in the central car parks.
The Tincknells site being adjacent to the Strawberry Way and the roundabout could allow well-designed access for parking. Part of that site is already used for storage units and garaging.
It might be possible to create a multi- (two or at the most three) - storey car park whilst continuing with lock-up units for storage or garaging at ground level.
