Run through cider country will have festival flavour
PREPARATIONS are well under way for Wells’ new half-marathon event which gives runners the chance to sample a cider at every mile.
The Ciderthon will start in Wells Market Place and take runners on a scenic circuit of the countryside before finishing back in the Market Place.
“The run gives you 13 cider tasters at each mile of the run - 12 are 100ml tasters and the 13th is a pint,” said event organiser Nikki Hawkes.
“The event is due to have a ‘festival feel’ finish line as some of the cider producers are bringing along some mobile bars to the event. For example, a Brothers bar will be present like at Glastonbury Festival, for anyone interested in purchasing more cider after they’ve finished to have there or to take home.”
Apart from Brothers, other cider producers already involved include Millwhites, Wilkins, and pizza and cider restaurant brand The Stable.
Wells Carnival committee have said that they will provide marshals for the Ciderthon, which will take place on April 29 and be supporting Dorset and Somerset air ambulance.
Nikki expects at least 500 people to enter the event.
“Early bird tickets have almost sold out but there are still plenty of tickets at the standard release price,” she said.

When Wells Voice first published details of the Ciderthon in November, Nikki explained that she had been inspired by the Marathon Du Medoc in France, a marathon with wine tasting stops every mile.
