Wells school holds special Remembrance tea party for Royal British Legion veterans
IN honour of Remembrance Day, St Cuthbert’s Infants school hosted a special tea party.
They invited veterans from the Royal British Legion to join some of the Year 2 children to share their memories. The Reception class children also took part by making cakes for the tea party. The children from Year 2 served drinks, cakes and biscuits to their special guests.
The children listened attentively to the stories of HMS Eagle, the large aircraft carrier ship, and stories about the pilots refuelling their planes in mid-air. The children enjoyed handling the medals, photos and other objects of interest. It was a wonderful afternoon that bridged the gap between the generations, providing children with the opportunity to hear stories from people who had lived through the experience.
The following Monday, the whole of Year 2 visited the cenotaph in St Cuthbert’s Church. They laid a wreath which was made by Mrs Jackson, Maple Class teaching assistant, and held a minute’s silence. They also had a tour of the Poppy Trail which was inside of the church.
