Turn square into socially safe cafe
Copy of a letter sent to Wells City Council administration officer Kevin Westwood and shared with Wells Voice:
Dear Mr Westwood
BRING THE CITY OF WELLS BACK TO LIFE
I am writing to you in connection with your plans for the gradual reopening of the Wells city centre when the current lockdown is relaxed.
Would it not be an opportune moment for the council to restrict vehicular access to the market square and to invite the existing cafe owners to place tables and chairs two metres apart in allocated areas of the square?
Cakes and light snacks may be served on disposable paper plates and local residents could bring their own mugs for tea and coffee.
I have discussed this with several local residents and they are very supportive of this idea.
I would also suggest that this presents an additional opportunity to revisit your earlier plans to pedestrianise the High Street.
