Two afternoons of live music over August Bank Holiday weekend
VISITORS to Wells Market Place will be treated to two afternoons of live music over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
The Sunday focus will be on folk and blues performances and Monday will be a latin jazz fiesta led by Cuban-born singer and pianist Milly Riquelme and her band.
Event organiser Paul Cannon said all the acts have been selected to suit the cafe quarter feel of the location on a summer afternoon. The shows are being paid for by the Wellspring Fund set up a year ago to aid local live music recovery after it had been silenced by Covid constraints.
“We are hoping to replenish the fund with collections on both days and, hopefully, a grant from Wells City Council,” said Paul.
“Since restrictions eased in July Wellspring has already helped local artists and venues get live music up and running again after being locked down for so long.”
Sunday’s all-local line-up includes singer/songwriters Helena and Desmond’s Dawn plus the ZZ Birmingham Blues Band. On Bank Holiday Monday, Milly Riquelme will be supported by members of the Wells Jazz Collective.
