Wells in mid-table after seven wins so far
WELLS have reached the halfway point of the season with a record of seven wins and six losses.
This leaves them eighth in the 14-team Tribute Somerset Premier table. Promotion will not come into play this season, nor, one hopes, relegation.
On the field there were wins over Hornets 2nds, but losses to Yatton, Avon and Burnham-on-Sea.
The home matches continue to receive excellent support and the club are very grateful to the pre-match lunch sponsors, accountants Bishop Jones for the Hornets game and local businessmen Phil Lloyd and Chris Brown who sponsored the excellent Christmas lunch before the Burnham-on-Sea match.
Wells rugby club are very lucky to have an excellent chef in Clive Arthur. Another person who is invaluable to the club is physio Maizie Phillips. Wet or shine, cold or warm, there she has been over the years, treating injuries, advising and administering the treatments.
The 2nd team have played four matches, comfortably beating Castle Cary, but losing to the 2nd teams from Burnham-on-Sea, Wiveliscombe and Chard.
The Colts (under 18s) had to travel to Leominster to play Luctonians in the National Cup and suffered a 28 points to nil defeat. Back in the league, however, they easily beat Walcott by 48 points to seven.
Wells rugby club would like to wish all its players, supporters, sponsors, coaches and all other helpers a Very Happy New Year.
See you down at the club on January 4, 2020, when the 1st team play Minehead Barbarians.
