• ‘Midsummer Mayhem’ Family Fun Day, The Bishop’s Palace, 10.30am- 4pm. Bouncy castle, giant inflatable slide, crazy golf, balloon modelling, mini croquet, giant games, dressing up, face painting. Wookey Hole Circus School will be teaching circus skills all day. Included with standard admission.

• Art groups Jesmarie’s Painters of Wells and Timsbury Art Group annual combined exhibition in the Cloisters of Wells Cathedral, until August 18. Variety of original paintings for sale at affordable prices, all worked by talented local artists. Exhibition open between 10am and 5pm daily.

• Rare Plant Fair, The Bishop’s Palace, 10am-6pm. Visitors will be able to browse over 20 stalls of rare and unusual plants from a selection of top South West nurseries. Entrance £6, which includes entrance to the Palace and Gardens.

August 21

• Somerset Wildlife Trust event: Bats Galore. A walk around The Bishop’s Palace Moat in Wells with local bat expert Dave Cottle and members of the Somerset Bat Group, 8pm-10pm. Learn how to use a bat detector to identify different species, and fascinating facts about bats. Palace drawbridge. £2, children under 16 free. For more, call 01823 652400.
